A Lehigh Acres woman is facing serious felony charges after authorities say a home Ring camera captured a disturbing incident involving the alleged abuse of a dog inside a Florida home.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Angel Bianca Santiago, 36, was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty and sexual contact with an animal after investigators reviewed footage from a Ring doorbell camera that allegedly showed the incident.
The investigation reportedly began after the dog’s owner received a notification from his home security system while he was away at work.
Authorities say the owner checked the live video feed and contacted 911 after seeing what he believed was his dog being harmed.
The homeowner told investigators that the footage was disturbing and that he immediately contacted law enforcement because he was concerned about the safety of his pet.
Investigators said the incident happened at a home in Lehigh Acres, Florida. According to the arrest report, Santiago was allegedly involved in an incident involving two dogs at the residence — Tobey, a 7- to 8-year-old Catahoula mix, and Meaty, a 7- to 8-year-old Border Collie mix.
Authorities allege that the camera footage showed the dogs involved in a confrontation before Santiago allegedly intervened. Deputies claim she then restrained Tobey and committed acts that resulted in the animal cruelty and sexual contact charges.
Investigators said the dog displayed signs of distress during the incident. Authorities also reported that Tobey had an injury near the right side of his face following the alleged abuse.
Both dogs were taken into the care of Lee County Domestic Animal Services for evaluation and protection while the investigation continued.
The dog’s owner said his animals are more than just pets and described them as members of his family.
After discovering what investigators say was captured on camera, the owner said he wanted authorities to step in and make sure the animals were safe.
The case has sparked outrage online, with many people expressing shock over the allegations and calling for justice if Santiago is convicted.
Animal cruelty cases often gain national attention when evidence such as surveillance footage helps investigators document alleged abuse.
Authorities said detectives attempted to interview Santiago during the investigation, but she was reportedly uncooperative.
Officials said Santiago was later taken into custody and booked into the Lee County Jail after receiving medical clearance.
The case remains under investigation, and the charges against Santiago are allegations. She is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
