Chicago Man Sentenced to Over 14 Years for Armed Carjacking of Beverly Family

Chicago, ILA Chicago man has been sentenced to more than 14 years in federal prison for carrying out a violent carjacking that targeted a family in the city’s Beverly neighborhood, federal authorities announced.

Damarri Conner, 23, received a sentence of 14 and a half years after pleading guilty to federal carjacking and firearm charges stemming from the November 2, 2023 incident.

According to prosecutors, Conner and an accomplice lay in wait near the victims’ home before launching the attack as a woman and her daughter arrived. Authorities said Conner struck the woman in the face and brandished a loaded firearm, threatening both her and her husband during the confrontation.

The offenders initially fled with the family’s Audi. However, the situation escalated when they returned shortly afterward and stole a second vehicle — a Range Rover — after obtaining keys during the initial нападение.

Law enforcement later tracked the stolen SUV, leading officers to a residence where Conner was found hiding in a closet and taken into custody without further incident.

Federal officials emphasized the seriousness of the crime, noting the traumatic impact on the victims and the calculated nature of the attack. The case was prosecuted in federal court due to the involvement of a firearm and the violent nature of the offense.

Conner’s co-defendant, identified as Kenneth Merritt, has also pleaded guilty in connection with the carjacking and is currently awaiting sentencing.

Authorities said the sentence reflects ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and hold offenders accountable, particularly in cases involving firearms and targeted acts against families in residential neighborhoods.

No further details about sentencing for Merritt have been released at this time.
