Law enforcement officials in Nassau County announced a sweeping gang crackdown Tuesday that resulted in the arrest of dozens of suspects tied to several well-known street gangs, marking one of the region’s largest coordinated enforcement efforts in recent months.
Authorities confirmed that 35 individuals were taken into custody, including at least 15 suspected gang members believed to be affiliated with groups such as the Bloods, Crips, MS-13, and Zoe Pound.
The arrests stemmed from a series of early-morning raids conducted across multiple locations, including a significant operation in Hempstead.
According to officials, the coordinated effort involved local police, county investigators, and federal partners working together to dismantle networks linked to drug trafficking, illegal weapons possession, and other violent criminal activity.
During the raids, investigators recovered illegal firearms, narcotics, and other evidence believed to be connected to ongoing criminal operations. Authorities said the seizures underscore the scale and organization of the targeted groups.
“This operation reflects our commitment to keeping Nassau County safe,” officials said in a statement, emphasizing that the crackdown was part of a broader, ongoing initiative to disrupt gang activity and prevent violence in local communities.
In one Hempstead raid alone, several suspects were apprehended as tactical units executed search warrants tied to a longer-term investigation. Officials indicated that the broader operation had been developing over days, if not weeks, with intelligence gathered from surveillance and interagency cooperation.
While the identities of those arrested have not all been released, authorities confirmed that charges are expected to include weapons violations, drug offenses, and conspiracy-related counts. Additional arrests may follow as the investigation continues.
Local leaders praised the effort, noting that coordinated enforcement actions like this are critical in addressing gang-related violence and maintaining public safety.
Residents in affected neighborhoods reported a heavy police presence during the raids, with streets temporarily blocked as officers executed warrants and secured scenes.
Officials urged community members to continue cooperating with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activity, stressing that public involvement plays a key role in long-term crime prevention.
The investigation remains active, and authorities say more details will be released as cases move through the legal system.
