A 24-year-old Florida man, Tyler Brandon Vidro, is facing first-degree murder and aggravated stalking charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Nathaniel Padgett, a FedEx driver, in Riviera Beach on April 16.
According to investigators, Padgett was carrying out routine package deliveries in a residential neighborhood when Vidro allegedly pursued and confronted him. Authorities say the encounter escalated, and Vidro opened fire, shooting Padgett multiple times.
Officials allege that after the shooting, Vidro waited approximately 20 minutes before calling 911. By the time emergency responders arrived, Padgett had sustained critical injuries. He was later pronounced dead.
During the investigation, Vidro reportedly claimed he acted in self-defense and sought protection under Florida’s “stand your ground” law. The statute allows individuals to use deadly force if they believe it is necessary to prevent imminent death or serious bodily harm.
However, law enforcement officials have indicated that the evidence gathered so far does not support that claim.
Authorities say the aggravated stalking charge suggests a pattern of behavior leading up to the shooting, which could undermine a self-defense argument.
The incident remains under active investigation, and officials have not released full details about what led to the confrontation. Prosecutors are expected to pursue the case in the coming weeks.
FedEx has expressed concern over the incident, stating that the company is cooperating fully with authorities and is focused on supporting the victim’s family.
Vidro is currently in custody and is expected to face further court proceedings related to the charges.
The case is likely to draw renewed scrutiny of Florida’s “stand your ground” law and how it is applied in cases involving fatal shootings.
