Two Men Charged After Loose Horse Struck by Car in Uptown Charlotte

Two men are facing multiple charges after a horse they were riding through Uptown Charlotte was struck by a vehicle, prompting a police response and widespread attention online.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the incident unfolded in a busy area of the city when the men were seen riding horses along public streets. At some point, one of the horses broke free and ran into traffic.

Witnesses reported that the loose horse galloped into an intersection, where it was struck by an oncoming car. The impact knocked the animal to the ground, drawing concern from bystanders as emergency responders arrived on scene.

Authorities later identified the riders as Desmon Moore and Devin Moore. Both men were taken into custody following the incident.

According to affidavits, police took Desmon Moore into custody after he allegedly attempted to pull his brother away from officers during the arrest. Authorities say he pulled away from officers, yelled, and used profane language as they attempted to place him in handcuffs.

The affidavit further states that Desmon Moore physically resisted officers during a search and allegedly refused multiple times to provide his name.

Both Desmon Moore and Devin Moore were charged with disorderly conduct, as well as resisting, delaying, and obstructing a police officer.

It remains unclear which of the two men was seen falling from the horse prior to the animal running into traffic and being struck by the vehicle.

The condition of the horse has not been fully disclosed, though early reports indicated the animal survived the collision. No serious injuries to drivers or pedestrians have been reported.

The unusual incident — involving horses in a densely populated urban setting — quickly gained traction on social media, where videos and images circulated widely.

The case remains under investigation.
