Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Attempted Assault of Stroke Patient at Atlanta Hospital

A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years, including 20 years in prison, after attempting to sexually assault a stroke patient at Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital.

The suspect, who was reportedly under the influence of drugs, entered the woman’s room without permission, attacked her, and later fled naked through the hospital’s hallways.

Shamon Pearce entered the room of a 47-year-old woman who was recovering from a stroke. The patient awoke to find Pearce on top of her and fought back, screaming for help until a nurse heard the disturbance and intervened.

After the confrontation, Pearce ran unclothed through the hospital corridors. He reportedly hid inside a trash can for more than an hour, changed into a used hospital gown, and escaped the facility before police later arrested him beneath a nearby bridge.

Pearce pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with intent to touch, criminal attempt to commit touch, false imprisonment, battery, and public indecency. A Fulton County judge sentenced him to 30 years, with the first 20 years to be served in prison.

In response to the highly publicized incident, Grady Memorial Hospital announced additional security measures, including locking inpatient units, improving visitor management systems, and providing wearable panic buttons for staff members.
