A Planet Fitness employee in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed by a man who had been banned from the gym over an unpaid membership bill, authorities said.
According to Montgomery County police, the suspect, 28-year-old Davier Massey, returned to the gym on Thursday despite being previously banned due to unpaid dues. The confrontation escalated when gym staff attempted to enforce the ban, and Massey allegedly stabbed an employee multiple times.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the Planet Fitness location in Cheltenham Township. Emergency responders arrived quickly, and the victim was transported to a nearby trauma center. Police described the injuries as serious but confirmed the employee is currently in stable condition.
Officers apprehended Massey a short distance from the gym. He now faces charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and recklessly endangering another person. He is being held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
Police say Massey had returned to the gym twice on the day of the incident and had previously caused disturbances related to his unpaid membership. Investigators are reviewing security footage and interviewing witnesses to determine the full sequence of events.
In response to the attack, Planet Fitness released a statement expressing concern for the injured employee and appreciation for law enforcement’s rapid response. “We are saddened by this violent incident and our thoughts are with our team member,” the statement read.
The case remains under investigation as authorities seek additional details and possible motives.
