Del Rio, Texas — Three women, including two sisters known as Kitty and Cookie Diaz, have been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of 32-year-old Caroline “Caro” Peña, a mother of five, in Del Rio, Texas.
According to police, officers responded on June 25, 2026, after Peña arrived at a medical facility suffering from multiple stab wounds. Investigators said the attack occurred in the 800 block of East 10th Street in Del Rio during the afternoon.
Peña was later transported to a San Antonio-area hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Authorities identified the suspects as sisters Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, and Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19, along with Kyandra Renee Faz, 21. All three women were arrested and charged with murder in connection with Peña’s death.
Police said detectives reviewed evidence, including surveillance footage and witness statements, as part of the investigation.
Court documents cited by news outlets allege that Amaya “Cookie” Diaz was involved in the stabbing, while Kitty Diaz and Faz were also accused of participating in the attack. The allegations have not been proven in court.
The case drew additional public attention after videos circulated showing the Diaz sisters smiling during their arrests. Officials and community members reacted strongly to the footage, while authorities continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Police have not publicly released a full motive for the confrontation. Authorities have stated that the investigation remains active and that additional details may emerge as the case moves through the legal process.
Peña’s death has left family members and friends mourning the loss of a woman they described as a devoted mother. She leaves behind five children.
The three defendants remain facing criminal charges as the court proceedings continue. A charge is only an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
