SANTA ANA, Calif. — An 18-year-old woman has been arrested after authorities say she threw a bowl of food at a Chipotle employee during a confrontation at a Santa Ana restaurant, an incident that was captured on surveillance video and widely shared online.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the incident occurred on May 12 at a Chipotle restaurant located on West 17th Street. Surveillance footage released by investigators showed a customer arguing with an employee at the counter before allegedly throwing a food container at the worker.
The video, which quickly gained attention on social media, appeared to show the bowl striking the employee in the face and chest before the customer left the restaurant.
Police released the footage on May 27 and asked the public for assistance in identifying the suspect. Investigators said numerous community members responded with information that helped lead to the identification of 18-year-old Samantha Salomon of Santa Ana.
Authorities announced that Salomon was arrested on June 4. Police have not publicly disclosed the specific charges she may face or provided additional details regarding the dispute that led to the incident.
The case sparked strong reactions online, with many viewers expressing support for service-industry workers and calling for accountability in situations involving assaults on restaurant employees.
Workplace advocates have noted that food-service employees frequently encounter verbal abuse and confrontational behavior from customers, underscoring broader concerns about worker safety in retail and restaurant environments.
