Two Elgin School Staffers Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Students

Elgin, OK — Two female staff members at Elgin Public Schools have been arrested this month following allegations of assaulting students, prompting concern among parents and community members.

Elizabeth Kay Sutton, 38, and Ottoria McClung, 37, were both taken into custody on separate charges related to incidents involving young students at the district.

Authorities report that both incidents occurred within the last several weeks.

According to police reports, Sutton allegedly struck a student in the face and forcefully made the child sit down.

The incident was reportedly captured on video, which led to the involvement of law enforcement. Sutton was charged with assault and battery on a student and has been released on bond, with a court date scheduled for May 2026.

Earlier, McClung was arrested for reportedly placing a five-year-old student in a chokehold while carrying them down a hallway. She faced similar assault and battery charges and was also released on bond.

Elgin Public Schools issued a statement confirming that both employees were terminated immediately under district policy. The district emphasized that student safety remains its highest priority and that it has policies in place to prevent such incidents, including training for paraprofessionals and personal care assistants.

“These incidents are deeply troubling and do not reflect the values of our school community,” the district statement read. “We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and reviewing our procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.”

Local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding both incidents. The community is encouraged to contact the Elgin Police Department with any additional information regarding the cases.
