Jake Haro, a California father who staged the kidnapping of his 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for murder and related charges.
The 32-year-old was sentenced on Monday, November 3, 2025, in Riverside County Superior Court after pleading guilty in October to second-degree murder, assault on a child under eight, and filing a false police report.
Haro and his wife, Rebecca Haro, were arrested in August after reporting that their infant son had been abducted by a stranger in a Yucaipa store parking lot. Investigators soon uncovered inconsistencies in their statements and determined that the kidnapping had been fabricated.
According to prosecutors, the baby died as a result of prolonged abuse. Haro had a prior record of child abuse and was on probation for a 2018 case involving his then-10-month-old daughter, who suffered severe injuries that left her with cerebral palsy.
Judge’s sentencing included 25 years to life for assault on a child causing death, to be served consecutively with an additional seven years and two months for probation violations and other offenses — totaling more than 30 years to life in prison. Emmanuel’s body has not been recovered.
Rebecca Haro has pleaded not guilty to murder and related charges and is currently awaiting trial.
