Bloody Fourth of July Weekend in Chicago Leaves 21 Shot, 2 Dead and 3 Stabbed.

Chicago, IL — A violent Fourth of July holiday weekend left at least 21 people shot, including two who died, while three additional victims were stabbed in separate incidents across Chicago, according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD).

Authorities continue investigating the string of violent crimes that unfolded throughout the city as thousands gathered to celebrate Independence Day.

The department’s preliminary figures, released Sunday afternoon, cover incidents reported during the extended holiday weekend, which CPD traditionally tracks from 6 p.m. Thursday through 11:59 p.m. Sunday. Because the reporting period had not yet concluded when the latest update was issued, officials noted the totals could change as additional incidents are documented.

Police said the shootings occurred in neighborhoods across Chicago and involved victims of varying ages.

While investigators have released information on several individual cases, many incidents remain under active investigation, and no comprehensive list of arrests had been announced as of Sunday.

Among those caught in the weekend violence were two Chicago police officers who were shot in separate incidents while on duty.

Both officers survived, though their injuries underscored the dangers faced by first responders during one of the city’s busiest holiday weekends.

The violence came as Chicago experienced an influx of residents and visitors celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks, neighborhood gatherings, festivals, and other public events.

Historically, major holiday weekends have seen increases in shootings and violent crime, prompting heightened police patrols throughout the city.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the shootings or stabbings to contact Chicago police or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. Detectives continue reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and collecting forensic evidence in an effort to identify those responsible.

City officials have not indicated whether any of the incidents are connected, and investigators believe many of the shootings stemmed from separate disputes occurring in different neighborhoods.

The Chicago Police Department is expected to release updated figures once the Fourth of July holiday reporting period officially concludes late Sunday night. Those numbers could provide a clearer picture of the total impact of the weekend’s violence.

As investigations continue, law enforcement officials are asking residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with investigators as they work to solve the cases and bring those responsible to justice.
