MILWAUKEE, Wis. — An 18-year-old Wisconsin man is facing multiple felony charges after prosecutors say a dispute over two caramel Frappes at a Milwaukee McDonald’s escalated into a shooting that injured four people, including a restaurant employee.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County, Jahzir Collins has been charged with four counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety as a party to a crime, one count of reckless use of a firearm as a party to a crime, and two counts of bail jumping. Authorities say another suspected gunman remains at large.
The incident occurred on June 17 at a McDonald’s restaurant on Capitol Drive in Milwaukee.
Investigators say Collins arrived at the restaurant with four other individuals and ordered two caramel Frappes using a self-service kiosk. While employees were preparing the drinks, one worker reportedly alerted the restaurant’s manager that members of the group had threatened to shoot her and were harassing a delivery driver.
According to court documents, the manager told investigators one of the men repeatedly referenced having a handgun equipped with a “switch”—an illegal conversion device capable of making certain pistols fire automatically—and allegedly threatened to “Swiss cheese” the restaurant.
Concerned by the threats, an employee discarded the prepared Frappes and informed the group they would not be receiving their order. The confrontation quickly intensified.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators allegedly shows Collins challenging the employee to come outside. Once outside, prosecutors say Collins yelled, “Pop ’em, pop his a–,” moments before another man accompanying him pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds toward the restaurant.
The gunfire shattered the restaurant’s entrance and sent customers scrambling for cover. Police said four people were struck by gunfire or injured during the attack, including the employee involved in the earlier confrontation. Officers recovered nine shell casings from the parking lot.
After the shooting, investigators say the suspects fled in different directions on foot.
During the investigation, detectives interviewed the McDonald’s manager, who told police she recognized the men because they had visited the restaurant on previous occasions. Investigators later received an anonymous tip that helped identify Collins as one of the suspects. Surveillance footage from another location allegedly showed him wearing the same clothing seen during the shooting.
Authorities have since charged Collins in connection with the incident. Law enforcement officials continue searching for the individual accused of firing the shots.
Anyone with information about the remaining suspect is encouraged to contact the Milwaukee Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains ongoing.
